The positions are available in the Section of Experimental Pediatric Oncology (Prof. Beltinger www.uniklinik-ulm.de/beltinger) within the large research laboratory of the department. The tumor marker projects aim is to find novel biomarkers in the blood for neuroblastoma. Candidate biomarkers will be searched for by hypothesis-driven data mining. The potential of candidate biomarkers will be determined in a transgenic mouse model of neuroblastoma already implemented within the group. Clinical applicability will be investigated in patient samples from a clinically annotated biobank.

The leukemolytic measles project aims to find signaling pathways determining the specific sensitivity of human acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) to leukemia-destroying attenuated measles virus. Using ALL propagated in mice the student will investigate cell death, perform global expression, search for activated signaling pathways and perform functional analysis of these pathways.

Methods include genome-wide expression profiling and proteomics, quantitative RT-PCR, protein analysis, FACS analysis and cell sorting, small animal magnetic resonance and bioluminescence imaging, and transgenic mouse work with genetic, macroscopic and
immunohistochemical analysis.

Your profile:
- Recent master degree in molecular medicine, biology,
  biochemistry or medicine
- Enthusiasm for translational experimental oncology
- Affinity to global gene and protein expression approaches
- Previous exposure to mouse work is advantageous
- Good written and oral communication skills

We offer:
- Salary according to TV-L
- 3-year contract
- Possible admission into the International Graduate School
  Molecular Medicine Ulm
- Possibility of short-term visits to other labs in Germany and abroad
- Certified training programs in lab animal work and recombinant DNA
