PhD Position in Tumor Microenvironment : Frankfurt am Main, Germany
A PhD position examining the role of the bone marrow microenvironment in hematological malignancies is open in the laboratory of Dr. Hind Medyouf at the Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy, Georg-Speyer-Haus, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
The proposed research project is focused on myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and in particular, the cross talk between hematopoietic and bone marrow niche cells, which we have recently shown to be essential in the context of human MDS (Medyouf et al., Cell Stem cell, 2014). We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated candidate to lead a project that aims to decipher the interplay between hematopoietic and niche cells in MDS pathogenesis and progression, using an integrative workflow that combines omics approaches with functional analysis using ex-vivo co-culture systems, genetic mouse models, and patient-derived xenografts. The ultimate goal is to develop innovative means by which we can manipulate the microenvironment in order to target diseased hematopoietic cells and restore normal hematopoiesis, thus improving patients’ outcome. In addition to handling mice and primary patient material, the project will involve extensive flow cytometry, molecular biology, and high-throughput next generation sequencing methods.
The candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art technological platforms, interdisciplinary expertise, and an outstanding scientific environment that supports young researchers in developing their own research ideas, so promoting career development. The institute is located in the heart of Frankfurt and provides a very stimulating, friendly and international environment. The working language is English.
If you are a talented scientist with a strong interest in translational research, then please apply to join our stimulating environment! Candidates with prior experience in computational biology are highly encouraged to apply.
Please send a concise CV (Max 3 pages) and a statement that describes prior accomplishments, research interests (1 page max), the expected availability date and the names/contact information of 2 references in a single PDF file to medyouf@gsh.uni-frankfurt.de.
Application deadline is October 31st.
