Postdoc in Neurophysiologie (Hamburg)

Pending funding, UniversitƤt Hamburg invites applications for a Post-doc Research Associate commencing on January 1, 2015 or later in the project "Role of astrocytes in synaptic plasticity".
The position is full-time (39 hours per week) and is remunerated at the 13 TV-L salary level*.
This short-term four-year contract terminates on 31 December 2018, and after positive evaluation will be prolonged by another term. The short-term nature of this contract is based upon Ā§ 2 of the Academic Short-term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

Tasks:
Duties include academic services in the relevant department or institute. Research associates can also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching
experience*. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Performing research both independently and in teams as well as mentoring PhD students are part of the daily work. Both qualitative and quantitative research is highly appreciated.
Area(s) of responsibility:
The successful candidate will investigate mechanisms of neuron-astrocyte plasticity and the influence of astrocytes on synaptic plasticity by means of confocal calcium imaging, optogenetic and electrophysiological techniques (local field potentials, patch-clamp).
Requirements:
An university degree in a relevant subject plus doctoral degree. Basic command of German language is an advantage, fluency in English is a requirement.
The candidate should have experience in neurophysiological techniques. Knowledge about handling transgenic laboratory animals is advantages.
The project is part of the positively evaluated Collaborative Research Center (SFB) "Molecular mechanisms of neuronal circuit modification: Tuning synapses and networks for plasticity". The final decision by the DFG is scheduled end of November. The position will be filled
pending funding.
