Staff scientist / Laboratory engineer (Darmstadt)
The Biology Department of the Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt), Germany - Developmental and Stem Cell Biology group - invites applications for a
STAFF SCIENTIST / LABORATORY ENGINEER
(salary grade E11 TV-TU Darmstadt) available from January 2015 to join the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology group at the TU Darmstadt. The initial appointment is for two years, but can be extended with the possibility of a permanent position.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge stem cell research in a modern and newly structured Biology Department
with several recently recruited research groups. The Development and Stem Cell Biology group will be established in January 2015 with
a new principal investigator appointed from Lund University, Sweden (http://www.med.lu.se/labmedlund/lund_stem_cell_center
/research_groups/stem_cell_gene_regulation).
JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of highly sophisticated FACS equipment to sort and analyze multiple cell
populations. S/he will also apply and further develop stem cell technologies with the main focus on iPS cells and neural stem cells.
Besides full responsibilities for the FACS unit and the development of stem cell methodologies, the selected candidate is encouraged to conduct own research projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A postgraduate degree (preferably PD) in a relevant field.
Expertise in flow cytometry, in particular multi parameter cell sorting.
Research experience should include stem cell cultures, preferably human ES/iPS cells, design and applications of viral vectors.
Experience with mice/isolation of primary cells is of advantage.
Excellent problem-solving skills to perform own maintenance procedures for FACS equipment.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Excellent presentation skills and ability to conduct FACS and stem cell teaching courses.
Strong team player skills and service mentality.
Ambition to continuously improve and further develop FACS and stem cell technologies.
Ability to conduct independent research projects.
