PhD position in chemistry : Erlangen, Germany
A PhD position (3 years with a possibility to extend for one additional year) will be opened in the group of Prof. Andriy Mokhir (Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Erlangen-Nuernberg) starting from 1.3.2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. A second PhD position will be opened starting from 1.11.2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. Possible projects include (a) further development of aminoferrocene-based, anticancer prodrugs (Marzenell et al. Aminoferrocene-based prodrugs and their effects on human normal and cancer as well as bacterial cells. J. Med. Chem., 2013, 56, 6935) and (b) development of small interfering RNAs activated by red light (A. Meyer, A. Mokhir, RNA Interference Controlled by Light of Variable Wavelength. Angew. Chem. 2014, Advance Article).
We are looking for a talented organic chemist, who is interested in synthesis and application of new organic and metal-containing compounds (drugs, fluorescent dyes, bioconjugates) as tools for control of biochemical processes in live cells.
A potential candidate should hold an MSc-title (or equivalent, e.g. Diplom) in organic chemistry or related field. No previous experience with live cells is required. The corresponding training will be provided.
