The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) has been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft f端r Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and additional partners. It is funded by the Federal State of Hessen through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the centre is to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change at the organism level.

Postdoc Senior Bioinformatics Scientist Phylogenomics, Ref. #D18f
(Fulltime)
There is an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated bioinformatics scientist to join our group. Initially, the
successful individual will assemble mammalian genomes from various NGS data and dissect genomic data for phylogenomic analyses. The individual is encouraged to develop own research driven activities, implement the latest methodology, and actively apply for third party funding. Encouragement and support will be provided to help the individual develop specialist knowledge and skill sets.
Your tasks:
揃 Understand scientific goals, and identify and realize informatics solutions
揃 Deliver impactful bioinformatics support
揃 Work with PhD students and Postdocs to translate new hypotheses into phylogenomic analyses
揃 Proactively engage in knowledge sharing and peer support to build expertise in the tools and techniques critical to phylogenomic bioinformatics
揃 Maintain and expand the necessary hardware
Your profile:
揃 PhD degree in computer science, genetics or related field
揃 Three years research experience in biomedical/life science, genetics/genomics, or related discipline
揃 Expertise in DNA sequence analysis and interpretation
揃 Awareness of NGS technologies, and experience of NGS data interpretation
揃 Expertise in statistical analysis of molecular data
揃 A thorough understanding of phylogenetics or population genetics
揃 Skilled in effective communication of complex genomic data to a non-expert
揃 An excellent publication track record
揃 Well networked within bioinformatics communities, expertise processing and interpreting next generation
sequencing data and Python/Perl programming expertise are desirable
揃 Interest to work in interdisciplinary teams
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E13, 100%). The contract shall start as soon as possible and will be initially restricted to two years.
