Research Associate (permanent) : Chapel Hill, NC, United States
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research Center at the University of North Carolina is recruiting an enthusiastic staff scientist to determine biomarkers and develop mass spectrometry-based quantitative methods in the airway secretions from normal, smokers, COPD patients, and cell cultures. This study will employ a broad range of biochemical and biophysical methods including mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Our laboratory in the Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research and Treatment Center is one of the best equipped and most focused mucin/mucus biochemistry and biophysics innate immunity laboratories in the USA. As such, it will provide the selected candidate with a unique opportunity to develop new skills and apply them to fundamental questions in the innate defense of the lung. The research environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers an excellent opportunity for career development.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in biochemistry and related areas, plus hands on experience with mass spectrometry based proteomics applications, including MRM based and label free quantitation,protein/peptide separation and protein chemistry. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to get along with co-workers and faculty in multi-disciplinary research teams are essential. Applicants should have demonstrated scientific productivity and be able to work independently from, but cooperate closely with, the primary investigator….
