PhD Position; Bioavailability of organic micropollutants in cell-based bioassays (Leipzig)

Your duties:
• You work in a project that improves the quantitative effect assessment in cell-based bioassays for application of these tools in water quality assessment
• You apply a mass balance model for bioavailable and internal concentrations of chemicals in cell-based bioassays and parameterize the model for chemicals that are found in wastewater and surface water
• To achieve this goal you determine partition ratios between cell culture medium and water and between cells and water based on a three-phase partition method with silicone
• You develop methods to extract chemicals from exposure medium in microtiter plates using Disposable Pipette Extraction and Solid Phase Microextraction
• You apply modern instrumental analytical methods to quantify the concentrations of chemicals in cell-based bioassays
• You expand the methodology from single chemicals to defined mixtures to environmental samples
• You present the obtained results at international conferences and publish the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
Your profile:
• Master degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Geo-Ecology, Ecotoxicology or Biology
• Particular interest in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry
• Experience in Analytical Chemistry and/or Ecotoxicology
• Interest in laboratory and computational work
• High level of proficiency in English language
