PhD position in neuronal microRNA research : Marburg, Germany
The Schratt lab (http://www.bpc-marburg.de/synaptic-micrornas-schratt-lab-2/) is inviting applications for a PhD position starting on September 1, 2015. The successful candidate will work on a project to identify novel non-coding RNA mechanisms regulating microRNA function in neuronal dendrites. This will include the biochemical identification of candidate molecules from dendritic preparations using RNA deep sequencing, state-of-the art single molecule in situ hybridization combined with confocal microscopy as well as functional characterization of candidate RNAs using gain-and loss-of-function approaches in primary hippocampal neurons. The contract will be initially for two years, with a possibility for extension.
What we offer
- enrollment in the interdisciplinary BPC graduate program (http://www.bpc-marburg.de/about-us/)
- work in a young, international and well-funded research team
- excellent infrastructure with state-of-the art facilities for microscopy and deep sequencing
What we expect:
- Msc/Diploma in Neurobiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related areas
- Background in basic techniques used in molecular biology and biochemistry
- knowledge in RNA biochemistry, advanced microscopy and/or electrophysiology is advantageous, but not a must
- a strong interest in basic molecular neuroscience
- high motivation and the ability to work in a team
Please send your CV, your most recent certificates and a short letter of motivation electronically to Prof. Gerhard Schratt (schratt@staff.uni-marburg.de) until July 1, 2015, the latest….
