SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

Postdok in Strukturbiologie (Mainz)

A postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Eva Wolf
at the Biology department of the Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) Mainz, Germany.
The position is available immediately for an initial period of three years. Salary will be according to German public service payment
agreement(TV-L 13).

Research in the Wolf group is focused on the structural (mostly X-ray
crystallography), biochemical and biophysical analysis of proteins/
protein complexes involved in the regulation and light-synchronization
of the inner circadian clock (e.g. Czarna et al (2013) Cell,153(6):
1394-405; Schmalen et al (2014) Cell,157(5):1203–1215). Circadian
clocks generate daily (24 h) rhythms of physiology, metabolism and
behaviour and thereby critically affect fitness, health and disease.
We are also interested in molecular connections between circadian
clocks and DNA replication, cell cycle and genome stability
(Witosch et al (2014) Nucleic Acids Research, 42:12912-27).

Projects will involve a wide range of techniques including cloning,
recombinant protein expression, protein purification, crystallization
and X-ray crystallography as well as complementary biochemical and
biophysical methods to study protein structures, interactions and
activities.

The Wolf group is currently located at the Institute of Molecular
Biology (IMB) (www.imb-mainz.de/wolf). IMB is a Centre of
Excellence for Life Sciences, which is funded by the Boehringer
Ingelheim Foundation and located on the campus of the
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany.

The successful postdoc candidate will have solid practical
experience in recombinant protein expression (preferentially using
both insect cells and E.coli), in protein purification and in
macromolecular X-ray crystallography. Additional experience
with biochemical, biophysical or spectroscopic analyses of purified
proteins or with cryo-EM is an advantage. She/he will hold a PhD
in a relevant discipline.

To apply, please send a single PDF file containing your cover
letter stating research interests and expertise, a CV, scanned
certificates and contact details of at least two references to
sek-ew@uni-mainz.de before May 25th 2015. Informal enquires
should be addressed to Eva Wolf (evawolf1@uni-mainz.de).
