Postdoc in albumin-based drug delivery : Aarhus, Denmark

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellow position at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Aarhus University, Denmark. The position is available from 1 June 2015 or later. The position is for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension.

Research area and project description
Albumin is a natural carrier protein possessing multiple ligand binding sites and plasma half-life ~ 20 days with a broad biodistribution and tissue penetration in both normal and disease conditions. Utilization of its physiological transport mechanisms promotes albumin as a highly attractive technology that may be utilised for both drug half-life extension and targeted intracellular drug delivery applications.

The project "harnessing nature to cure disease" aims to control and tune the natural properties of albumin through mutations in the neonatal Fc receptor binding region of recombinant albumin. The successful candidate will focus on conjugation and characterisation of drugs to recombinant albumins and study the effect on cellular binding, intracellular trafficking, pharmacokinetics and therapeutic effects in disease models.

Qualifications and specific competences
A PhD in either organic chemistry or pharmaceutical science is preferred. The main requisite is expertise in polymer synthesis, drug conjugation, and purification and characterisation methods.
Experience in intracellular drug delivery and design of cleavable spacers and endosomolytic materials is preferred. Experience with animal models, whilst preferred, is not a necessity.

The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), http://www.inano.au.dk/, is an international research and education nanoscience center based at Aarhus University, Denmark. The center combines expertise and faculty from Physics, Chemistry, Molecular biology, Biology and Medicine to carry out world class interdisciplinary research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The center gives access to a broad range of infrastructure, tools and expertise including clean-room facilities.
