SCIENCE-JOBS-DE

PhD position (Bonn)

The DZNE is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on Neurodegenerative Diseases. The center includes nine sites in Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Gƶttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, TĆ¼bingen and Witten

We seek excellent, highly motivated and talented PhD candidate (f/m) to apply electron microscopy and tomography and other approaches to address key questions on the structure and function of synapses in health and disease. The main interest of Al-Amoudiā€™s group is to gather structural information to understand molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer disease. To achieve these goals, we will use multidisciplinary approach including confocal laser scanning microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy and tomography of vitreous sections of tissues or primary cell cultures of wild-type and mutants from animal model systems. Cryo-electron tomography of vitreous sections has the unique potential to provide structural insights on neurodegenerative diseases at molecular level. We have considerable experience with cryo-EM and an excellent infrastructure with the state-of-the art for cryo-electron tomography.

Employment, payment and social benefits are consistent with those at other research institutes. Job location is Bonn, Germany. The DZNE is an equal opportunity employer. The DZNE especially welcomes and encourages disabled individuals to apply.

Highly qualified and motivated candidates that hold excellent diploma or master degrees are invited to submit their applications.

Interested candidates should send their applications including CV, school and university grades, and addresses for reference letters via E-mail in a single PDF to application@dzne.de
