The fellowships are to help promising scientists advance their knowledge and research experience, while also supporting the research endeavors of VARI under the mentorship of a faculty member.
The scope of this project includes mammalian cell culture, dissection of relevant signaling pathways, live-cell /confocal microscopy and quantitation, qRT-PCR, RNA interference, and flow cytometry. The candidate will work with Dr. MacKeigan and his research team to reach the overall project objective, which is to develop a computational model of autophagy-mediated survival in chemoresistant lung cancer.
While this project will be NIH-funded, an integral part of postdoctoral training is the process of preparing a research proposal and writing a fellowship application. Postdoctoral Fellows in the Laboratory of Systems Biology are required to apply for external funding after hire, as soon as it is reasonable.
