Postdoctoral Research Associate in Building Megaproteins to Control T Cell Signalling : Oxford, United Kingdom

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to create a new generation of protein assemblies to understand and control T cell activation. Through engineering and harnessing ultra-stable protein interactions, Streptavidin/Biotin and SpyTag/SpyCatcher, the project will create giant programmable protein structures. These assemblies will then be used to give precise spatial control over activatory and inhibitory signals for T cell signalling, in collaboration with Prof. Anton van der Merwe in the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford University. Such approaches should create powerful tools for detection and activation/inhibition of specific immune responses in health and disease.

Applicants should possess, or expect to obtain soon, a PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology or a related area. They should be familiar with standard molecular biology approaches, recombinant protein expression, and protein chromatography and they should have applied these in their research. Skills and experience in cellular analysis are advantageous but this is not required.

This full-time post is funded by BBSRC for up to 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension for a further 1 year, and is based at the Department of Biochemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QU.

This position is graded on the University’s Grade 7 scale, for which the salary range is £30,434 – £31,342 per annum. The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
