At the Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Molecular Oncology (Prof. Dr. Thorsten Stiewe), we offer a PhD scholarship of 1.365 € per month (tax free). The scholarship is available immediately.
The Institute of Molecular Oncology is an international research institute dedicated to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying the development of cancer and to establish novel therapeutic concepts. Our research is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), German Research Foundation (DFG), German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe), and the Universitätsklinikum Giessen und Marburg (UKGM). The institute is embedded into the stimulating research environment provided by local collaborative research structures such as the SFB/TRR81 "Chromatin changes in differentiation and malignancies" and the KFO210 "Genetics of drug resistance in cancer" and runs the Genomics Core Facility for high-throughput screening and next generation sequencing.
The research project is a cooperation with the Department for Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology (Prof. Dr. Andrea Wittig) and the Marburger Ionenstrahl-Therapiezentrum. In the project we aim to identify genes that mediated the therapeutic effect of different radiation qualities using unbiased high-throughput CRISPR/Cas9-based loss-of-function screening. A particular focus will lie on differences between radiation with either photons or particles (proton and carbon ions), as a basis for future personalized therapy decisions.
Successful candidates for the scholarship should have
•an excellent Diploma or Master degree in a relevant field of Life Science,
• an excellent knowledge of the English language,
• the desire to make a relevant contribution to the field of cancer biology,
• a high motivation for interdisciplinary work in an international scientific team.
We support women and strongly encourage them to apply. Applicants with children are welcome – Philipps-University is certified as a family-friendly university.
As the documents will not be returned after end of the selection procedure, please do not send originals. Application and interview costs cannot be refunded. Please send your complete application documents as a single PDF file including a detailed CV, list of publications, motivation letter, and two references.
