Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Meng How Tan at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. Our laboratory is broadly interested in systems and synthetic biology, with a particular emphasis on genome engineering using CRISPR-Cas9 technologies. The postdoctoral fellows will be involved in projects spanning the following areas:

(1) Development of new genome editing tools – We seek to discover, evolve, or rationally design new genome editing enzymes that are efficient, specific, and can function robustly in different cell types ranging from microorganisms to human cells.
(2) Application of existing CRISPR-Cas9 systems to biomedical and biotechnological problems – We perform genome-wide CRISPR-based screens for fundamental knowledge discovery (e.g. in stem cell biology or cancer) or for the improvement of cell lines or strains that will be of great interest to the industry.

Environment:

Our laboratory is located in the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE) at NTU. SCBE, together with the School of Biological Sciences and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, form a new biomedical hub in the university. NTU is ranked number one by Times Higher Education as the World’s Fastest Rising Young University. Some of our projects will be carried out in close collaboration with Imperial College London and the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS). The postdoctoral fellows will interact closely with researchers at both Imperial College Centre for Synthetic Biology and Innovation and GIS.

Requirements:

We are seeking highly motivated and independent postdoctoral fellows with proven academic track records and interest in interdisciplinary research. The successful candidates should
- Have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences (e.g. molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, developmental biology, or related disciplines)
- Be familiar with functional genomics
- Have a strong track record of publications (at least one first-author publication in a reputed journal)
- Have the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
- Have good verbal and written communication skills
Experience with genome editing will be very advantageous.

How to apply:

Interested candidates should submit a detailed CV with publication list and contact information of three referees to Dr. Meng How Tan (mh.tan at ntu.edu.sg) together with a statement of why you are interested in joining our laboratory. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
