Different groups at the Institute are focusing their research on understanding cellular, molecular and genetic properties of pluripotent stem cells and their differentiated derivatives, such as cardiac myocytes, neural cells and smooth muscle cells. The major interest is on exploring the utility of these cells as human cell based test systems for developmental toxicology and disease modeling. Special focus is given to translational research in the field of cardiac regeneration in small and large animal models of heart infarction.
