PhD position in neuroscience (Erlangen)
Seizures are frequent in humans and often progress into drug-resistant epilepsy. The Department of Neuropathology at the University Hospital Erlangen is offering a PhD position in the field of molecular neuroscience. The research project focuses on the analysis of epigenetic gene regulation in the pathogenesis of epilepsy using human epileptogenic tissue, experimental animal models of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and in vitro models of seizure-like events. The successful applicant will be part of an EU-FP7 funded project (Grant Agreement no: 602531), involving 25 partners in 11 countries. The PhD student will benefit from supervision through an experienced post-doc and from strong international collaborations. Exchange with other groups of the consortium is encouraged.
The successful applicant should have: (1) a diploma/master in biology, chemistry, biochemistry or molecular medicine, (2) a strong interest in disease associated basic medical research, (3) a strong background in molecular biology and preferably epigenetics or neuroscience, and (4) a friendly and highly motivated attitude.
Project start: 01.10.2015
The position will be for 3 years. Salary will be according to DFG regulations (TVL-E13, 50 %)
