Postdoc position in RNA biology and DNA repair
Karolinska Institutet, Department of Onkology-Patology, Research group Farnebo
Department
Department of Oncology-Pathology
Research Group
The position is placed in the research group of Marianne Farnebo at Cancer Center Karolinska, CCK. Farnebo’s lab studies functions of the nuclear organelles Cajal bodies and mechanisms involved in DNA repair and how defects in these processes contribute to tumor development and progression. A number of techniques required to study DNA repair are already up and running in our laboratory. We have also access to clinical material relevant for the project.
Description of the project
Accumulating evidence highlight RNA processing/splicing factors as regulators of DNA repair and genome stability. However, the underlying mechanism(s) remains largely unexplored. The postdoc project will focus on characterizing the role of noncoding RNAs and RNA processing factors in DNA repair and to investigate whether these functions are altered in cancer cells, which could have implications for cancer therapy. This project is conceptually novel and expected to have important consequences on our understanding of DNA repair control, cancer development and aging.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will hold a PhD and will be able to demonstrate an in depth understanding of noncoding RNAs and/or a knowledge of molecular mechanisms of DNA repair. He/she should have previous experience in RNA biology and relevant RNA techniques, such as RNA immunoprecipitation and be familiar with cloning and qPCR. Bioinformatics skills are a plus.
To build a strong and creative research team, we are looking for high achievers from universities around the world. We will offer an intellectually stimulating environment and look for talented people who will play a part in developing our next breakthrough ideas. Are you ready to discover the unexplored?
More specifically,
1. Applicant should have a high personal drive and motivation
2. Applicant should have innovative thinking and be eager to solve problems
3. Applicant should be efficient and able to work productively in a team
4. Applicant should be fluent in English (written and spoken)
5. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability
Eligibility
Applicants who have completed their PhD degree no more than three years before the last date for applications are given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist. Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.
The position is available for 1 year with possible extension for 2 years, from autumn 2015.
The application is to be submitted on the NetRecruiter system at KI job webpage:
