Two postdoctoral research fellow positions are available in the Washington University Pain Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Our research is aimed at understanding the neurobiology of pain associated with metastatic bone cancer, with specific focus on tumor-nerve signaling crosstalk studies on both mammalian sensory neurons and cancer cells. We utilize mouse models of metastatic bone cancers; diverse behavioral assessment of pain, motor activity, and gait; multimodal live animal imaging, tissue histology, electrophysiology, functional Ca2+ imaging, biochemistry, cell/molecular biology; and mouse genetic approaches to seek answers to specific questions. Successful candidates for these positions should have the following qualifications:
* Highly self-motivated individuals with a fresh Ph.D. degree (or nearing completion of Ph.D. in next three to four months) in neuroscience or physiology or pharmacology with strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
* Solid background/training and expertise in electrophysiology on neurons in culture and/or slices.
* Creative thinking skills and strong background in basic physiology/pharmacology, neuroscience, ion channel and receptor signaling.
* Affinity for performing investigations in rodents.
* Ability to work collaboratively with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* High proficiency in the English language (read, write, and speak).
