PhD position in cell biology, posttranscriptional control of gene expression (Halle (Saale))
The institute of Molecular Medicine, Department of Pathobiochemistry, is looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a strong interest in the post-transcriptional control of gene expression and a background in cell biology. The position is funded by the DFG and is part of the GRK 1591 Training Program. We offer a structured 3-year doctoral program which provides a range of educational and research opportunities (see http://www.medizin.uni-halle.de//index.php?id=786 for further information). This specific project will be focused on the characterization of post-transcriptional regulation of plakophilin expression by miRNAs and RNA binding proteins. Plakophilins are dual function proteins that are essential for intercellular adhesion via desmosomes but in addition play a role in growth control by regulating translation and proliferation rates. Thus, their expression and intracellular localization determine cell fate. This is important in the context of regeneration, wound h!
