One PhD position in Biochemistry and Cell Biology is available immediately in the research group of Sebastian Springer at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany.

The Springer group investigates the intracellular transport and maturation of membrane proteins, especially of MHC class I molecules, intracellular peptide receptors of the immune system that are excellent model systems for cell biology. We use a multifaceted approach that encompasses bioinformatics, protein biochemistry, in vitro folding and transport assays, and study of proteins in their cellular environment. More information is available at  http://www.jacobs-university.de/springerlab .

The holder of the position will focus especially on the connection between folding, ligand binding, and transport of class I molecules, along the lines of our previous work (for example J. Cell. Sci. 123, p. 4271; EMBO J. 28, p. 3730; J. Biol. Chem. 282, p. 30680). The project is very exciting and there are great opportunities to learn different methods and to pursue your own ideas.

For this position, an MSc degree or equivalent in biochemistry or cell biology with a laboratory-based thesis is required. We look for coworkers who are ambitious, energetic, creative, intellectual, and independent. You should be able to work in an interdisciplinary environment, and be a good teamworker.

Jacobs University is a private research and teaching university. Our life sciences laboratories have state-of-the-art equipment for research in biochemistry, cell biology, and biophysics. There are about 15 research groups in the life sciences with about 75 PhD students. The campus is a very exciting and friendly English-language environment with undergraduate and graduate students from 80 nations. More information can be found at http://www.jacobs-university.de .
