PhD position: Decoding the functions of ubiquitin in the cellular response to DNA damage : Mainz, Germany
In the field of “Ubiquitin signaling and mass spectrometry-based proteomics” the research group of Dr. Petra Beli offers the following PhD project: Decoding the functions of ubiquitin in the cellular response to DNA damage
Description:
Dynamic modification of proteins with ubiquitin after DNA damage has been shown to play a central role in all DNA repair pathways. In this regard, protein ubiquitination has most frequently been associated with the recruitment of DNA repair factors – many containing ubiquitin-binding domains –to DNA lesions and lesion flanking chromatin. The aim of this project is to identify the protein substrates and characterize the functions of selected nuclear ubiquitin ligases that are important for cellular survival after DNA damage. To this end, the prospective PhD student will employ a range of methods including mass spectrometry-based proteomics as well as advanced cell biological and biochemical methods such as flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, next generation sequencing and genome editing techniques.
