The Cell Biology Workgroup of Professor Klaudia Brix invites applications for
2 PhD Positions in Molecular Cell Biology (f/m)
The positions are available from October 2012 and are financed within the frame of the DFG program SPP 1629.
Both PhD Students will work on a research project within the framework of the DFG priority program SPP 1629 “Thyroid Trans Act” (Coordinators: Führer, Brix, Biebermann). The research work will cover thyroid cell biology, thyroid hormone transporters, G-protein coupled receptors, and proteolytic enzymes. The biomedical project in the field of endocrinology approaches a better understanding of the auto-regulation of the thyroid gland by classical and non-classical pathways.
Job Description:
You will be assigned in this DFG-funded project depending on your background in molecular life sciences to perform biochemical, cell and molecular biological work. One student will focus on the analyses of thyroid hormone transporters, and the second student will investigate the roles of trace amine-associated re-ceptors in mouse thyroid tissue and cultured thyroid epithelial cells. The project work further includes:
• Effective application, evaluation and improvement of experimental protocols
• Reporting and communication within the national consortium and at international meetings
Required Qualifications:
• Qualification at Master’s or equivalent degree in any field of the molecular life sciences
• Experience in basic cell culture techniques, animal breeding, sectioning of tissue samples, immuno-fluorescence labeling and laser scanning microscopy, immunoblotting, and enzymatic activity assays is desirable but not required.
• Responsible, self-motivated, able to work independently, teamwork ability
• Very good knowledge of English (written and spoken)
Application Documents:
• Cover letter including reference addresses
• CV including a list of methods and a brief statement of research interests
• University Transcripts, Degree Certificates, and Samples of Academic Work (if available)
Please include the earliest and the latest possible starting date. Application deadline is 15 September 2012. Electronic submission as a single PDF file to: s.meier@jacobs-university.de
Screening of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled.
