Doctoral Student in Single-Cell Transcriptomics : Helsinki, Finland

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki, Finland, conducts high-quality research and provides research-based basic and post-graduate education in medicine and dentistry. We are looking for outstanding researchers to join our new team! The Single-cell transcriptomics research group, starting in Medicum, University of Helsinki, is seeking candidates for a DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITION.

 

The open position, in the fields of molecular systems biology and translational cancer research, is part of the Academy researcher project Transcriptional regulation in colon cancer at the level of single cells funded by Academy of Finland.

 

The goal of the project is to identify the tissue-specific factors that transmit the signals that are relevant for growth of colon cancer cells. This will be pursued by using novel single-cell technologies and genome editing. A successful candidate has, or is close to having, MSc degree and has a background in molecular biology, biochemistry or molecular medicine, and strong enthusiasm to unravel the mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in cancer. Basic understanding of cancer biology and computational analysis is considered as an asset for this position, and ability to work together with medically and computationally oriented researchers is required.

 

Initial contract of employment will be done for a minimum of one year and the starting date is to be agreed, preferably in August/September 2016. Trial period of four months will be applied. Salary will be based on the Universities salary scheme for teaching and research personnel composed of both task specific and personal performance components that will be evaluated during the first year, starting levels are 2/3 (2186,42 EUR / month).

 

We offer an international multidisciplinary research environment with state-of-the-art facilities. The research will be carried out in the new Single-cell transcriptomics research group (http://csbi.ltdk.helsinki.fi/SCT/) in collaboration with highly skilled groups with complementary expertise in high-throughput technologies, mathematical and computational modelling, and clinics.
