Postdoctoral Positions in Functional Stem Cell Biology : Bonn, Germany

The LIFE & BRAIN Center on the University of Bonn Medical Campus is a research and development platform comprising academic institutes and translational units with more than 300 scientists. A key focus of LIFE & BRAIN is stem cell research. We are particularly interested in the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) in neurological disease modeling and neuroregeneration.

Based on long-standing expertise in the derivation of neuronal and glial subpopulations from hiPSCs and their use for modeling neurodegenerative diseases, we now seek to expand our activities towards the study of psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, ASD) and chronic neuropathic pain. In particular, we are interested in setting up standardized in vitro models that allow us to study functional alterations in patient-specific neurons and glia.

To that end we are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows interested in an interdisciplinary approach bridging stem cell biology, disease-related research and neurophysiology. Previous experience in cell reprogramming, genome editing and stem cell-based disease modeling would be desirable.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a highly innovative field within a stimulating international environment and benefit from a broad range of established cell programming, neural differentiation and disease modeling technologies. Moreover, the envisaged projects are embedded in national and EU-wide research consortia and will constitute a central part in established collaborations with outstanding specialists in the field.
