Postdoctoral Research Fellow (scholarship) in Tumor Pathology: Stockholm, Sweden
The Division of Pathology is a part of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Karolinska Institute at the South Campus. The Division comprises 6 major research groups all of which work in close collaboration with the Laboratory for Clinical Pathology and Cytology, Karolinska University Hospital. The major research themes involve cancer.
The research group
The MB-group at the Division of Pathology is the leading group in studying selenium compounds as cancer chemotherapeutics. The group has a wide range of research interests spanning from basic mechanistic studies to human clinical trials. Recently we have published the first-in -man clinical phase I trial on selenite as cancer chemotherapeutic in patients with end-stage cancer. The group has an extensive national and international network and close collaboration with oncologists, surgeons and specialist in internal medicine.
Duties and requested qualifications
The successful applicant will work on selenium cytotoxicity in cancer. A substantial part of the work will include mechanistic studies in which the efficacy of certain selenium compounds will be evaluated. The candidate is required to have demonstrated knowledge and experience in molecular biology techniques including but not limited to modulations of gene and protein expression, transfection techniques, bioinformatics data analyses and maintenance of cell- and tissue cultures. The above criteria are key requirement for the position. It is expected that the candidate is independent, has the ability to independently develop the projects, interpret data and deliver high quality laboratory result. The candidate must be excellent in oral and written English.
Entry requirements
Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying.
One requirement for receiving a scholarship for postdoctoral studies is central registration as a postdoc.
Type of scholarship
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt.
The amount is set for twelve months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
