PhD students/Postdocs (m/f)
in Immunology. Our research focuses on mononuclear phagocytes of the innate immune system, which include dendritic cells, monocytes and macrophages. Dendritic cells are versatile controllers of the immune system with crucial roles in host defense, immune regulation and tissue homeostasis. We aim to understand the developmental pathways of these cells and determine to what extent cellular functions are established during ontogeny or influenced by the specific local tissue environment. We make use of novel mouse models allowing for selective genetic manipulation and targeted ablation, as well as visualisation of dendritic cells by fluorescent markers. In parallel, systematic phenotypic, transcriptional and functional analyses of mononuclear phagocytes are used to assess if similar functional subsets exist in human pathologies.
