PhD student position
in posttranscriptional gene expression control mechanisms and their function in thrombosis and hemostasis, and tumor biology at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH) in Mainz.
Job description:
The Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH) is a premier model center for integrated research and treatment newly founded at the University Medical Center in Mainz. It aims to integrate research and patient care, and facilitates the education and carrier of young scientists with an attractive training and fellowship program (http://www.cth-mainz.de/cth/career.html?L=1 ).
Embedded into key research areas including vascular prevention and vascular biology, and immunology/oncology at the University Medical Center, the CTH research centers on four main complementary scientific areas in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis consisting of experimental research, clinical epidemiology, clinical trials and clinical hemostasiology.
Research in the lab for Experimental Hemostasiology (Danckwardt lab) mainly focuses on processes of posttranscriptional gene regulation and their role in health and disease (Blood. 2002 Mar 1;99(5):1811-6; EMBO J. 2008 Feb 6;27(3):482-98). We have recently made important contributions to the understanding how RNA processing is regulated in response to environmental cues to control crucial cellular functions in tumor biology and hemostasiology (Mol Cell. 2011 Feb 4;41(3):298-310).
We are looking for a PhD-student who is interested in posttranscriptional gene expression control and RNA biology (biochemistry and molecular biology) and the physiology of blood coagulation. He/she will address novel aspects of gene expression regulation and its importance for the regulation of blood coagulation in the context of hemostasiology and tumor biology.
The position is situated in the group of Sven Danckwardt at the CTH Mainz, Germany.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should hold an excellent diploma or master in biochemistry, biology or biotechnology. He/she should be motivated to work in a multidisciplinary and international young team. Good communication skills and fluency in English are expected.
We offer an exciting project, a highly motivated supervision and facilitate the education and carrier of young scientists with an access to an attractive training and fellowship program.
