Postdoctoral Research Fellowships: Boston, MA, United States
Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions in DNA Repair and Cell Death
Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health / John B. Little Center for Radiation Sciences
Available Positions
Multiple positions are available in the laboratories of Professors Kristopher A. Sarosiek and Zachary D. Nagel in the JBL Center for Radiation Sciences (https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/jbl-center/). We are seeking highly motivated scientists who are interested in DNA repair and/or cell death. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field. Independent funding is not a requirement, however successful candidates are expected to apply for individual research fellowships. Salary and fringe benefits commensurate with experience will be provided in compliance with approved NIH standards. Individuals with a strong publication record and training in molecular biology, biochemical techniques and cell-based assays are especially encouraged to apply.
Nagel Laboratory
Research in the Nagel Laboratory is focused on understanding the role of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA repair in disease susceptibility, the effectiveness of cancer therapy, and inter-individual differences in sensitivity to DNA damaging agents. We are using novel, multiplex, cell-based DNA repair assays together with biochemical and biophysical approaches to understand DNA repair at the molecular, cellular and population levels, with the long-term goal of advancing personalized prevention and treatment of disease. One major research initiative explores how inter-individual variation in DNA repair capacity in normal cells influences disease risk following exposure to radiation, chemotherapy and environmental DNA damage-inducing agents. A second major initiative focuses on measuring and targeting DNA repair capacity in cancer cells to develop individualized therapy strategies. More information is available at https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/zachary-nagel/. Applicants who are interested in joining the Nagel laboratory should send materials to znagel@hsph.harvard.edu.
Sarosiek Laboratory
The Sarosiek Laboratory seeks ambitious and hard-working applicants to conduct NIH/NCI-funded research in apoptosis (programmed cell death). We seek to understand how the regulation of apoptosis in healthy as well as diseased cells affects their sensitivity to damage or stress, especially genotoxic damage induced by radiation or chemotherapy. Furthermore, we plan to leverage this knowledge to improve patient care by predicting and preventing healthy tissue toxicity from environmental, medical and pathological factors. Our research utilizes in vitro and in vivo models of cancer as well as neurodegenerative diseases and biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques to identify critical factors regulating apoptosis and how they may be targeted therapeutically. More information is available at https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/kristopher-sarosiek/. Applicants who are interested in joining the Sarosiek laboratory should send materials to sarosiek@hsph.harvard.edu.
How to Apply
Please submit the following materials to Dr. Nagel and/or Dr. Sarosiek using the contact information provided above:
- A current CV
- Contact information for 3 references
- A cover letter describing your past research experience and future research goals, why you are interested in our research program, and how you feel you can contribute to the research initiatives of the laboratory. …
Don't forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
