PhD studentship "cellular & molecular mechanisms of organ fibrosis" (Aachen)

A ERC funded PhD studentship for three years is available in the Division of Nephrology at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany. The Kramann laboratory (www.kramannlab.com) studies the cellular and molecular mechanisms of organ fibrosis. We have recently identified pericyte progenitor cells as a major source of organ fibrosis  (Kramann et al. Cell Stem Cell 2015). We are now exploring these cells in mice and human during cardiac remodeling in aging and chronic kidney disease with the goal to develop novel targeted therapeutics.  This project will focus on target identification using RNA-Seq and proteomics from human and mouse followed by in vitro and in vivo target validation experiments. The ideal candidate will have outstanding molecular and cell biology training (cloning). Experience with mouse models and flow-cytometry is strongly preferred but not mandatory. The willingness to perform animal experiments is an absolute must. Training in a variety of mouse models or !

organ fibrosis will be provided.  Furthermore, training for flow-cytometry, RNA-Seq and high resolution confocal-microscopy will be provided. The position should appeal most students who want to perform cutting edge translational research with target identification, in vitro and in vivo gene editing and the ultimate goal to develop novel therapeutics with an impact on patients.

To apply for this position, please submit a letter explaining your interest, a CV and contract information of three references to Dr. Rafael Kramann (rkramann@ukaachen.de)
