Postdoctoral Fellow - Metabolomics, Proteomics and Chemical Biology: Heidelberg

Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

Cellzome, a GSK company, applies its world-class proteomics technology to the discovery of safe and efficacious drugs. GlaxoSmithKline is a science-led global healthcare company that researches and develops a broad range of innovative medicines and brands.

This post-doctoral position is a joint appointment at EMBL and at Cellzome. The project is at the interface of metabolomics, proteomics and chemical biology and aims at investigating how cellular perturbations induced by e.g. bioactive compounds are manifested in metabolism and in altered thermal stability of the proteome. The aim is to better understand the interplay of changes in metabolism and the activity of metabolic enzymes both from the angle of fundamental biology and drug discovery. The successful candidate will work with the recently developed thermal proteome profiling technology (Savitski et al, Science 2014, Franken et al, Nature Protocols 2015, Reinhard et al, Nature Methods, 2015), and benefit from the highly interdisciplinary environment at EMBL and Cellzome.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate has experience in cell biology, protein knock-down and biochemistry/chemical biology and prior experience in metabolomics or proteomics. Excellent communication skills and desire to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment are essential.
