Postdoctoral Fellow: Immunotherapy : La Jolla, CA, United States
The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Fellow candidate in the area of immunotherapy. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemical biology, immunology, cell biology, or a related field and strong experience in T cell biology, synthetic biology, or tumor immunology is preferred.
This position will work as part of a small team of interdisciplinary team of scientists to translate novel cell and protein therapies for the treatment of cancer into first in human clinical trials. Specifically, projects will be focused in the development of CAR-T cell and bispecific antibody platforms. While working within the scope of these projects this position will also have the unique opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of other projects at Calibr covering infectious and neglected tropical diseases, metabolic disorders, autoimmunity, and others. Calibr’s open lab space design and collaborative environment encourages the seamless flow of ideas within and between research groups. Publication in high impact journals, participation in patent applications, and conference/meeting attendance will be highly encouraged as part of this position.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- A strong background in cell culture is essential. The candidate must have experience working with primary human immune cells and culturing multiple cell lines including, but not limited to, common cell lines used in immuno-oncology research. Experience tracking the proliferation, viability and phenotype of cells in vitro is essential. Experience preparing cells for use in vivo is essential.
- Experience and knowledge of the immune system is essential. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a well-established understanding of the immune system. Experience in T cell biology and tumor immunology is preferred, experience in other immune components is acceptable.
- Experience with in vitro assays commonly used in immuno-oncology is important. The candidate must have experience assessing the activity of immune cells in vitro using cytotoxicity, proliferation, activation and survival assays.
- Experience with multi-color flow cytometry is important. The candidate must have experience with multi-color flow cytometry and have a clear and comprehensive understanding of immune cell phenotyping.
- Experience with lentivirus transduction systems is preferred. The candidate will be required to generate high quality lentivirus for the transduction of both primary immune cells and cell lines.
- Experience with basic molecular biology techniques is preferred. Experiments include but not limited to molecular cloning, protein expression/purification, immunoprecipitation, Western blots, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in cell biology, immunology or related area
- History of publication in high impact journals, grants, and accolades
- Excellent ability to design and organize research projects
- Results and performance driven motivation
- Outstanding communication skills
- Detail-oriented experimentalist
- Prior postdoc experience is accepted but not required
