Postdoctoral Training fellow in cancer metabolism : London, United Kingdom
Postdoctoral Training fellow in cancer metabolism
This is a full-time fixed term position for 4 years on Crick Terms & Conditions of Employment
THE GROUP
We seek a talented and motivated postdoc in cancer metabolism to join Karen Vousden in the p53 and metabolism laboratory.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Professor Vousden’s laboratory focuses on the role of metabolic changes in cancer development. Details of research projects currently being undertaken can be seen at: http://www.beatson.gla.ac.uk/Cancer-Metabolism-Growth-and-Survival/karen-vousden-tumour-suppression.html
Research techniques used in the laboratory include metabolomics, cell biology, molecular biology and in vivo models.
The research aims to understand how one carbon metabolism contributes to cancer development, some of the specific aims include but not limited to:
• The analysis of how one carbon metabolism promotes cell survival
• The role of serine metabolism in cancer development
• The intersection of metabolic pathways and ROS detoxification mechanisms and their contribution to cancer
ABOUT US
The Francis Crick Institute is an entirely new institute with a distinctive vision of how biomedical research is conducted. It is one of the most significant projects in UK biomedical science for a generation. The institute’s labs have an international reputation for cutting edge research into basic biology and are committed to training the next generation of research scientists.
On 1 April 2015, staff from the London Research Institute (CRUK) and National Institute for Medical Research (MRC) transferred to the Crick to form a fully functional research institute on four sites. The Crick is located in a new, purpose-built research centre in central London (next to St Pancras International), housing some 1,250 researchers and 250 support staff.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The post holder should embody and demonstrate our core Crick values: Bold, Imaginative, Open, Dynamic and Collegial, in addition to the following:
Essential
• PhD in the development of methods for quantifying ROS
• Good knowledge and experience in ROS signalling and cancer metabolism, with proven experience and publication in the area of one carbon metabolism
• Technical expertise in the application of mass spectrometry for metabolomics analysis including flux analysis, molecular biology, 2D and 3D cell biology, design of genetically engineered mouse models
• Track record of writing papers as evidenced by publications in refereed journals
• Evidence of writing skills through contribution to refereed reviews in highly cited journals
• Evidence of data presentation at scientific meetings
• Experience of experimental design
• Ability to work independently and also capable of interacting within a group
Postdoctoral Training Fellows are expected to lead their own projects, contribute to other projects on a collaborative basis (both in the lab and with external collaborators) and guide PhD students in their research. The ability to work in a team is essential.
