Postdoctoral Position : Boston, MA, United States

Postdoctoral positions are available for studies of immunology, lung biology, and respiratory infections in the laboratory team of Dr. Joseph P. Mizgerd. We are looking for dedicated scientists and creative thinkers to approach the problem of pneumonia, with the general premise that the incidence and outcomes of lower respiratory tract infection are driven by host factors more than microbial determinants.

Ongoing studies and envisioned directions of our team include: elucidating innate immune functions of epithelial cells, macrophages, and neutrophils in the lung; adaptive immunity and immunological memory, particularly the roles of resident memory lymphocytes and heterotypic protection; declines in immune resistance and tissue resilience from age and other factors rendering individuals susceptible to severe infection; and consequences of pneumonia over extended time-frames and extra-pulmonary tissues.

We are a multidisciplinary group approaching these problems from basic and translational perspectives, including animal models, cell and molecular analyses, computational approaches, human samples, and patient data. We provide superb research training in a collegial and collaborative environment that includes graduate students, PhD postdocs, clinical fellows, and engagement from both junior and senior faculty. A doctoral degree with relevant experience is required. Please specify whether or not you are eligible for training on a T32 from the NIH, which requires US citizenship or permanent residency. T32 eligibility is relevant but not necessary.
