PhD studentship in cardiac regeneration: Berlin, Germany
The MAX DELBRÜCK CENTER FOR MOLECULAR MEDICINE (MDC) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, supported by the Federal Government of Germany and the Land Berlin.
For our Cardiovascular-hematopoietic interaction team, starting* May 1st, 2017*, we are looking for one
PhD studentship in cardiac regeneration
in the laboratory of Dr. Suphansa Sawamiphak at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin. The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine is a leading institute in the field of biomedical research, integrated within the thriving research community of Berlin. Research at the institute ranges from basic cell biology to translational applications, with the goal of understanding the mechanisms underlying human diseases.
Description:
Ischemic heart disease associated with acute loss of cardiomyocytes is a major cause of heart failure. The regenerative capacity of the human heart, as in other mammals, is grossly inadequate to compensate for such a catastrophic loss of heart muscles. Despite intensive studies, an ideal cell-based therapy to replace the lost cardiac muscles has yet to emerge. The work in our group focuses on the roles of the immune system in cardiac repair with the ultimate goal to tackle the limitation of myocardial regeneration. Toward this end, we are taking advantage of the remarkable regenerative ability of the zebrafish heart to identify the cellular and molecular regulators mediating immune-cardiac cell interactions during repair processes. We seek a talented and motivated student eager to learn new techniques and willing to contribute her/his enthusiasm and curiosity to our research program. Experience in molecular cloning and zebrafish-related techniques is advantageous, but not necessary. Several available projects in our laboratory will enable the successful candidate to gain experience in a range of techniques in zebrafish genetics, developmental biology, molecular and cell biology, cardiac injury and regeneration, microscopy, bioinformatic analysis, and transgenesis.
Requirements:
We seek a talented and motivated student eager to learn new techniques and willing to contribute her/his enthusiasm and curiosity to our research program. Experience in molecular cloning and zebrafish-related techniques is advantageous, but not necessary.
The initial contract will be for a three years period, with the option of extension. Salary is according to the German TVöD E 13 (Bund).
The MDC is an equal opportunity employer and supports gender equality.
