Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Immunotherapy: Seattle, WA, United States
Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer with minimal side effects. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first and largest cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.
Responsibilities
The post-doctoral research fellow will work on independent and collaborative projects developing new methods to understanding changes in the tumor immune microenvironment for patients on immunotherapy trials. This fellow will also analyze the development of tumor specific T cell responses in the peripheral blood following immunotherapies such as checkpoint blockade. Human samples will come from patients undergoing treatment for solid tumor malignancies within the Program in Immunology and Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC). The successful applicant will both employ strategies using ex-vivo model systems for the study of human tumor samples and the culture of human T cells to test within those systems. The ultimate goal will be to identify strategies to further improve the immunotherapy and the discovery of new important facets of the anti-tumor immune response.
The Program in Immunology is a leader in the development and clinical application of novel immunotherapeutic strategies and is committed to the advancement of this approach. The post-doctoral research fellow may also participate in the laboratory evaluation of ongoing immunotherapy clinical trials involving and in the development novel treatments.
The post-doctoral research fellow will work both independently and collaboratively within the Program in Immunology at FHCRC and the Clinical Research Division. The position will involve cell culture, microscopy, image analysis, flow cytometry, intercellular staining, transfections, ELISPOT and Chromium Release Assays.
Qualifications
Applicants will have a PhD in a biological science and/or a MD. The ideal candidate will have a research background in immunology with robust skills in cellular biology, including cell culture, microscopy, image analysis, genomics, flow cytometry, and T cell functional assays. To be successful in this position, the post-doctoral research fellow must be highly motivated to establish a career as a future independent investigator.
