Postdoc/scientist Cancer genomics and immunology: West Lafayette
Two Postdoctoral (one biologist and one computational biologist) positions are immediately available (open until filled) for enthusiastic scientists to work in the area of cancer genomics, immunology, and computational biology. We are forming a new group of highly energetic, very collaborative, and multi-disciplinary scientists consisting of biologists, computer scientists, statisticians, and computational biologists. We have several exciting projects regarding the application of high throughput sequencing techniques in immune disorders and cancer. Our fully equipped and renovated (dry and wet) lab is located at the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research and has expertise in human genome regulation and cancer genomics.
Successful candidates are expected to incorporate novel approaches including high-throughput sequencing (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, etc) to help understanding the regulation of the disease and immune system. In particular, we are interested in understanding the effect of novel transcriptional regulators (e.g. noncoding RNAs) on the immune cells and disease state.
Biologists are expected to have experience in cell isolation, transfection techniques, cell culture, flow cytometry, in vitro gene manipulation, and hands-on expertise in molecular biology and transcriptional regulation. Being able to perform high-throughput sequencing library preparation is highly desirable.
Computational biologists are expected to have experience and knowledge of various pipelines to analyze high throughput sequencing data.
Requirements:
• Education: PhD in molecular and cell biology, immunology, computer science, or related field.
• Experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology skills (required for biologist).
• Programming skills: Python/Perl, R/Matlab, C++ (required for computational biologist)
• Work in high performance computing environment and familiar with Linux shell (required for computational biologist)
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and record keeping skills with high attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as ability to work with others.
• Personal and professional integrity.
• Flexibility in work scheduling.
The successful candidates are expected to be independent self-starters with experience and knowledge of contemporary high throughput sequencing techniques. Candidates will be in a dynamic and intellectually rich environment and will participate in various collaborations with members of Purdue University Center for Cancer Research. They will work closely with Dr. Kazemian and will gain training in proposal/grant/report writing.
How to apply:
Please submit your CV, cover letter, outlining your interests and accomplishments and two reference letters to Kazemian@purdue.edu.
