Post title: Post-doctoral Scientist
Salary range: £35,581 – £38,624 (including London Allowance)
Location: The appointee will split their time between the Institute of Hepatology, 111 Coldharbour Lane, London, SE5 9NT and the Royal Free London campus of UCL
Responsible to: Dr Shilpa Chokshi (FLR), Dr Gautam Mehta (UCL)
Duration: 1yr, extendable for a further 12 months

This post is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting, collaborative project between the Foundation for Liver Research and University College London (UCL). The post builds on a programme of work at UCL exploring innate immune dysfunction in cirrhosis, with an emphasis on transcriptional regulation of immune responses. The successful applicant will divide their time between the Royal Free campus of UCL, where they will work with the “Innate Immunity in Cirrhosis and Chronic Liver Failure” team, and the Institute of Hepatology, London, at Denmark Hill.
The following skills and attributes are required:
Essential skills
• PhD in molecular biology or immunology with excellent academic track record
• Hands-on experience in cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques
• Experience working with rodent models
• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to work independently
• Experience of working within interdisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Demonstration of scientific and communication ability through authorship of peer reviewed publications in internationally recognized scientific journals
Desirable skills
• Background in epigenetics or innate immunity
• Experience with rodent models of liver disease
• Flow cytometry and cell sorting
• Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector experience
• CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene modification
The post is offered for an initial term of one year, extendable for a further year. The post is jointly funded by the Foundation for Liver Research and University College London but the appointee will hold a single substantive contract with the Foundation. The appointee will have an honorary appointment with UCL and will have access to core facilities and mentoring/development programmes in both institutions. As part of the appointment with the Foundation for Liver Research the appointee will also be put forward for an honorary appointment with King’s College London.
