Postdoc position in computational RNA biology/bioinformatics: Frankfurt, Germany
The Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (BMLS) at the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main offers
1 Postdoc position
(E13 TV-G-U, full-time)
The position is available from the 15th May 2017 or later, initially for 2 years.
Applications are invited for a postdoc position in the laboratory of Dr. Kathi Zarnack. The successful applicant will contribute to internationally competitive research in the field of computational RNA biology with a particular focus on genomics approaches to study RBP function in posttranscriptional regulation. The aim is to develop and apply computational ap-proaches to investigate RBP binding and transcript characteristics as well as functional interrelationships from a range of ge-nome-wide experiments, such as iCLIP and RNA-seq. The biological questions will center around posttranscriptional regulatory processes during animal embryonic development and human cancer (in collaboration with Dr. Julian König at IMB, Mainz and Dr. Tobias Schmid at the Faculty of Medicine, University Frankfurt). The postdoc will work in close collaboration with experi-mental scientists and will have access to high-quality first-hand datasets to pursue his research question.
You will
• Study the mechanisms of RBP function in different cellular contexts, including embryonic development and cancer
• Integrate genome-wide datasets to deduce complex relationships
• Work in close collaboration with experimental researchers
Required Qualifications
• PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology or related areas
• Strong experience in analysing high-throughput functional genomics data, such as RNA-seq, CLIP or ChIP-seq
• Good programming skills
• Familiarity with R or Matlab would be a plus
• Solid background knowledge in RNA biology
We offer
• A stimulating, diverse and international research environment
• Working as part of a young and motivated team
• The possibility to work with first-hand state-of-the-art datasets
To apply, please email a cover letter stating your research interests, your CV and contact addresses of at least two referees in a single PDF file to Dr. Kathi Zarnack (kathi.zarnack@bmls.de) until 28th April 2017.
The Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is the third largest university in Germany with about 46,000 students and 4,600 em-ployees. It is an internationally recognised university and an important regional employer. In recent years, the Goethe University was completely restructured to now centre on two campus locations for natural sciences and humanities/social sciences, which offer an ideal research and study environment. In 2008, the ‘Goethe University became a foundation under public law – a unique status among German universities, which allows great autonomy. The temporary employment for research assistants follows the rules of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz in conjunction with the university law of Hesse (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz). The BMLS is an equal opportunities employer and strongly encourages applications of female scientists. Persons with disabilities and equivalent qualification will be given priority….
