Postdoctoral Scientist - Structural Biology of DNA Damage Response: Cambridge, United Kingdom
Postdoctoral Scientist – PNAC
Starting Salary £30,162 to £32,975 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK
Postdoctoral Research Position in Structural Biology of DNA damage response
The phosphoinositide 3-kinase-like protein kinases ATM and ATR are key enzymes signaling cellular responses to double and single-stranded DNA breaks. A postdoctoral position is available for structural biology of the complexes that these kinases make with substrates, adaptors, regulatory subunits and DNA. This two-year AstraZeneca funded position involves electron cryo-microscopy (cryo-EM), hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS), X-ray crystallography, biochemistry and cell biology.
The work will be carried out in the research group of Roger Williams in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). The LMB has state-of-the-art facilities for cryo-EM, HDX-MS and X-ray crystallography, as well for a wide range of other biophysical approaches.
Candidate requirements
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry or a related discipline or, exceptionally, equivalent experience and a strong interest in structure-function studies of the DNA damage response. Experience in cryo-EM, HDX-MS, X-ray crystallography or biochemistry would be particularly useful, however, motivation and innovation are essential.
The successful applicant will be awarded a 2 year Career Development Fellowship/MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme with a potential 3rd year extension following assesment by the funder. The fellowship is a training and development position for a Postdoctoral Scientist who has recently completed their doctoral studies, or is moving into a new research discipline.
Working for the MRC provides a whole host of benefits including a final salary pension scheme, Benenden Healthcare membership and excellent holiday entitlement. You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare vouchers.
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is one of the birthplaces of molecular biology and is an internationally renowned centre for fundamental biomedical research. The LMB has an excellent record of innovative basic research leading to applications in medicine. Scientists are drawn to the LMB from all over the world, thus creating a lively and international community for the exchange of ideas and technical innovation.
