PhD positions in Molecular Pharmacology (Marburg)
The Institute of Pharmacology, at Biochemical-Pharmacological Center (BPC, http://www.bpc-marburg.de), Faculty of Medicine, Research group of Prof. Grosse is seeking two
PhD candidates
Research at the Institute of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, aims at understanding the molecular mechanisms and signal alterations that control cancer cell invasion, proliferation and metastasis. Our goal is to identify and manipulate relevant signaling components that may represent novel molecular targets in particular for cancer and anti-invasive therapies. In particular we investigate the molecular mechanisms of actin-based tumor cell invasion, cell-in-cell invasion, nuclear actin dynamics as well as actin-based transcription and chromatin dynamics.
The successful PhD/Dr. rer. nat. candidate will use state-of-the-art live cell microscopy in combination with optogenetics, as well as genetic and biochemical manipulations of cellular systems. We tightly collaborate with the Core Facilities of the Faculty of Medicine (FACS, Genomics, spinning disk and multiphoton microscopy) and in particular with the MPI for Terrestrial Microbiology on super-resolution microscopy of the actin cytoskeleton.
The salary is according to TVH E13/2. Positions are available from October 2017 and the duration is initially limited to three years, if no former times of qualification must be considered and the limitation is based on the time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
The successful candidate must hold a MSc, Diploma or related certificate in Biology, Medicine, Biochemistry or comparable discipline in life sciences. He or she should bring a solid knowledge of theoretical and practical experience in molecular biology (cloning, genome editing, etc.) proteinbiochemistry, immunofluorescence-microscopy or live-cell-imaging. We expect excellent knowledge of the English language, a strong interesst to develop new strategies and establish ongoing projects as well as participating in an international team.
We actively support the professional development of junior researchers, e.g. by the offers of the BPC Graduate Programm, the graduate school of the GRK 2213 „Membrane Plasticity in Tissue Development and Remodeling“, the Marburg Research Academy (MARA), the International Office, the Higher Education Didactics Office and the Human Resources Development Office.
We support women and strongly encourage them to apply. In areas where women are underrepresented, female applicants will be preferred in case of equal qualifications. Applicants with children are welcome – Philipps-University is certified as a family-friendly university. Sharing a full-time position (§ 8 Abs. 2S. 1 GHIG) as well as a reduction of working time is possible.
Applicants with a disability as described in SGB IX (§ 2 Abs. 2, 3) will be preferred in case of equal qualifications. Application and interview costs cannot be refunded .
Please send your application mentioning registration number [wird von der Personalabteilung vergeben] and including a letter of motivation, CV, copies of relevant certificates and names and affiliation of two academic referees to University of Marburg, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Pharmacology, BPC, Prof. Dr. Robert Grosse, Karl-von-Frisch-Str. 1, 35043 Marburg ausschließlich als PDF-Datei an pfeffer@staff.uni-marburg.de zu senden.
