Postdoctoral researcher
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.
DZNE in Bonn advertises a position as
Postdoctoral researcher (f/m) – Code 1494/2017/8
With a focus on disease mechanisms of self-templating protein aggregates.
The laboratory led by Prof. Ina Vorberg studies basic mechanisms of formation and intercellular transmission of proteinaceous infectious particles (prions). We are particularly interested in how conformationally diverse protein aggregates store and transmit biological information (please review Krammer et al., PNAS 2009; Hofmann et al., PNAS 2013; Liu et al., mBio 2016; Fehlinger et al., Sci Reports 2017). For further information, please contact ina.vorberg@dzne.de.
The research of the candidate will focus on cell tropism and mechanisms of protein aggregate spreading and possible modes of intervention in mouse models of neurodegeneration. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with excellent analytical and organizational skills and a strong interest in protein misfolding and neurodegenerative diseases. The successful applicant should hold a recent doctoral degree or equivalent in life sciences or related fields. Prior experience in mouse models and histopathology is required. Experience in cell biology and image analysis would be an advantage. The candidate should be able to work independently and have excellent team working skills. A written and oral command of English is essential.
We offer
An exciting project on a highly relevant research topic
A cutting-edge infrastructure
An international environment and excellent working conditions
