Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m) - Code 1500/2017/9 (Bonn)
The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) investigates the causes of diseases of the nervous system and develops strategies for prevention, treatment and care. It is an institution within the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers with nine sites across Germany (Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten). The DZNE cooperates closely with universities, their clinics and other research facilities.
The DZNE in Bonn offers a position as
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m) - Code 1500/2017/9
within Dr. Daniele Bano’s research group.
We study the interplay between epigenetic plasticity, mitochondrial function and metabolism in aging and neurodegenerative diseases. We have previously elucidated novel mitochondria-dependent molecular cascades that contribute to cell death and neuronal dysfunction (Sendoel A. et al, 2014; Gioran A. et al, 2014; Meyer K. et al, 2015). Moreover, we have recently demonstrated the relevance of replication-independent histone variants in controlling the epigenetic landscape that promotes pro-survival signaling pathways (Piazzesi A. et al, 2016). As part of our translational effort, we have identified biologically active compounds that can counteract metabolic dysfunction in Caenorhabditis elegans and cellular models of mitochondrial diseases (Gioran A. et al, in preparation). Future work is to assess additional candidate compounds and signaling pathways for their efficiency in rewiring metabolism in nematodes as well in mice carrying mitochondrial lesions.
Your profile: We search for a highly motivated postdoc interested in mitochondrial diseases. The project encompasses a variety of methods and technologies, including genetics, confocal laser microscopy, histochemical approaches, cellular biology, biochemistry and tissue preparation from transgenic mice. Previous experience with C. elegans (lifespan and behavioural assays) is a major plus. The successful candidate is a team player.
We offer:
• An interesting and challenging research structure that works on the future topics of health research
• An international environment characterized by a strong focus on science and research
• A high potential for the individual development of our employees
• Targeted personnel development
• The position is available starting from 1st December 2017/ 8th January 2018 for 1+1 year(s) with the possibility of an extension.
• Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst – TVöD Bund).
You will obtain special skills and knowledge for your scientific qualification during your activities at DZNE. The DZNE is an equal opportunity employer. It especially welcomes and encourages disabled individuals to apply.
