The position of a PhD-student is available at the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, University Medical Center Freiburg. The project is funded through the excellence cluster BIOSS2 and will aim at the synthesis of the molecular events of mitochondrial apoptosis, using cell-free and cellular systems. The position is embedded in a laboratory group (head: Georg HƤcker) with a focus on the molecular mechanisms of cell death and the functions of cell death in host defence. Experimental approaches will include work in cellular models and cell-free systems such as isolated mitochondria and interactions of proteins with liposomes. Technically, a spectrum of methods from molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and synthetic biology will be used. We are looking for a qualified and motivated colleague who preferentially has completed masters or diploma in a related area.
