We kindly invite applications for a DFG-funded project on the

"Molecular analysis of Hepatitis C Virus translation and replication"

in the research group of Prof. Michael Niepmann in the Institute of Biochemistry, School of Medicine, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen for a

PhD student position (E13/50 %).

The project will start as soon as possible and will run for three years.

We seek highly motivated students who can address scientific problems in modern molecular virology and related fields. Students holding a Master's or Diploma degree in virology, biochemistry, biology, human biology, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

The project will aim at the molecular analysis of the regulation of translation and replication of HCV and involve various methods, including analysis of replication complexes, ribosome profiling, NGS, microarray analyses, the use of Lentivirus expression systems, and SILAC proteome analysis. We offer excellent research facilities (Biosafety level 3) and top-class research networks, international collaborations, interdisciplinary scientific training, and a comprehensive complementary training program. The work will include handling of infectious virus and radioactive materials. Justus-Liebig-University Giessen is an excellent place for research in Life Sciences with many faculties and research collaborations in an international environment, including research networks like the new Sonderforschungsbereich on RNA viruses (Marburg/Giessen) and the International Research Training Network Giessen/Marburg/Moscow.

Justus-Liebig-University aims at an elevated percentage of women in research. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Applications of severely disabled persons with the same qualifications will be handled with priority.
