The Järås laboratory, Dept of Clinical Genetics, Lund University, is announcing a 24-month postdoc scholarship for start on Sept 1, 2013. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated and to have a suitable background within hematology/oncology research. In addition, good team-working spirit is mandatory.
Project background
Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is the most common form of acute leukemia and is associated with poor prognosis. The reason why AML often relapses after initial remissions following treatments has been attributed to the AML stem cells, which show resistance to conventional cancer therapies. Thus, curing AML will require eradication of the AML stem cells.
Project
The overall aim is to study novel therapeutic targets on AML stem cells. This involves studying novel cell surface targets previously identified using in vivo RNA interference screens on AML stem cells (unpublished). In addition, high-throughput small molecule screens will be applied to identify new therapeutic targets. The project will involve various techniques within molecular biology and cell biology as well as experiments involving mice.
The Järås laboratory
The Järås laboratory was founded in 2012. With critical findings obtained from Dr. Järås postdoctoral training at Harvard, Boston, there is a unique possibility for efficient implementation of new projects. By the end of 2013, the Järås laboratory is expected to encompass one research engineer, two PhD students and one postdoctoral research fellow. The Järås laboratory is part of BioCARE- Biomarkers in Cancer Medicine (www.biocare.nu).
Qualifications required
The applicant should not have been employed by Lund University within the last two years in order to be able to receive a scholarship. PhD degree should not be more than three years old at the last day of applying,
