The lab: The Schredelseker lab in the Walther-Straub Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at LMU Munich/Germany is interested in physiology and pathophysiology of the heart. Cardiac contraction and relaxation is triggered by changes in the intracellular calcium level and dysregulation of cellular calcium homeostasis is associated with cardiac diseases like heart failure or cardiac arrhythmias. We are interested in the cellular mechanisms, pathways, and proteins underlying cardiac calcium handling, how cardiac diseases emerge, and how they can be treated.
The project: Mitochondria play an essential yet not well understood role in the control of cardiac rhythmicity and contractility. Aim of this project is to investigate the role of fast mitochondrial calcium uptake for cardiac rhythmicity and contractility and it's therapeutic potential as a target for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia. The project offers a large variety of methods from cell physiology to molecular biology and work with laboratory animals mice and zebrafish.
The position: The position can be filled as off July 2013, salary is based on German TV-L (1/2 TV-L E13). The position is limited to 3 years.
The successful applicant: The successful applicant should most importantly be motivated and fascinated by scientific research. He/she should hold an MSc or equivalent degree in biological or chemical sciences. The ideal candidate should have practical experience in a research lab and willingness to work with laboratory animals. We are especially happy about applicants with experience in molecular and/or cell biology, and good communication skills in English and German.
Candidates should send their application including a description of their research experience and interests, their CV, as well as names of referees preferably as one merged file to johann.schredelseker@lmu.de. I'm also happy to answer any further questions.
Applications are requested by May 31st, 2013, at the latest.
