A three-year position is available for a Ph.D. student in a collaborative project on the analysis of molecular interactions in G-protein-coupled receptor signaling at the Institute of Biochemistry in the group of Prof. Beck-Sickinger. A major part of the work will be performed at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Dept. of Biochemistry, in the group of Prof. Brock and Dr. Adjobo-Hermans.
Project description:
Membrane receptors play a role in a multitude of regulatory processes and are therefore highly relevant targets for drug development. Due to the fact that such membrane proteins are difficult to purify, screening for ligands that influence their behavior remains a bottleneck. This BMBF-funded project aims at resolving this bottleneck by applying fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS) to the analysis of ligand-receptor interactions using solubilized receptors. Moreover, the interaction with downstream targets of these receptors will be studied. The project will involve the construction of expression vectors, the production of stable cell lines, the purification of proteins and the screening of interaction partners using FCCS.
Requirements:
• An excellent Master’s degree in the molecular life sciences
• Motivation and strong commitment
• Independent and flexible working attitude
• Good proficiency in English
• Communicative team-player
• Knowledge in the areas of (GPCR-mediated) signal transduction and advanced microscopy are advantageous
Applications should include a CV, a copy of grade transcripts, publications, information about previous laboratory experience and at least two references or recommendation letters.
The position is available immediately. A candidate is expected to start within 4 months after the application deadline.
