The laboratory of Dr Catherine Verfaillie at the Stem Cell Institute, KU Leuven, Belgium (SCIL; www.kuleuven.be/SCIL) has a PhD fellow position available for assessments of the role of transcription factors, signaling pathways and niche factors on the proliferation, homing and adhesion of hematopoietic stem cells. The identity of the transcription factors, signaling pathways and niche factors are the result of an extensive transcriptome profiling study of the hematopoietic stem cell and its niche throughout development. Studies will involve in vitro stem cell culture, screening the role of genes using zebrafish as a model, and homing and transplantation studies in mouse models.
Candidates will be joining a group of postdoctoral and PhD students as well as technical staff.
Qualified candidates should be from any European country, have a master degree with grades in bachelor and masters course work. Laboratory training abroad is a major plus point. The candidate researcher is expected to have strong work ethic, high self-motivation, critical thinking abilities, and excellent organizational and communication skills.
You can submit your application until August 1, 2013 to Christina Vochten, at Christina.vochten@med.kuleuven.be.
We also request three letters of recommendation from your mentors.
